The Shortz Sudoku books are usually excellent. This one disappoints, not because the puzzles are bad but because that they are misnamed. This book is titled "Perfectly Impossible" and below that reads "200 VERY HARD puzzles". From the cover, I believed these would be puzzles which Shortz calls Beware! Very Challenging (BVC) and Mind Melting, at the very least. In fact, this book has 50 moderate, 50 demanding, and 100 BVC puzzles. Only the BVC puzzles can be called very hard. Demanding is merely hard and moderate is not hard at all! It's as if the cover of this book doesn't belong with these contents. I realize that Perfectly Impossible is hyperbole, but this book isn't even close! I would never have ordered this book if I knew one quarter of the puzzles would be too easy for me..

The front cover of this book says "200 very hard puzzles". NOT TRUE! There are 50 moderate and 50 demanding puzzles before you get to the 100 very demanding puzzles. Don't buy if you are really looking for the hard puzzles.

How can you title a book "Perfectly Impossible" when the first 50 are labeled "Moderate" and the next 50 are called something like like "challenging". The "Moderate" ones are one-star at the best. You can do them in 10 minutes or so each. Haven't done any of the second group yet so I will not judge then yet. This is really nothing short of fraud. He is capable of creating hard puzzles, so why not be honest about the book. I don't trust him any more. I used to.

As a Will Shortz puzzle fan I was very disappointed by this book.It was clearly mislabeled as 200 "very hard" puzzles as there were none.It started out with a "moderate" section and never increased in level of difficulty.Perhaps that was the publisher's fault; if so, Mr. Shortz should look for another one.

Ive gone through at least a dozen Will Shortz Sudoku books and Ive enjoyed them all. Not as challenging as I had hoped but a good change of pace none the less.

Far from impossible .

I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend who loves Sudoku but finds that books are never hard enough. He sure thinks this one has really hard puzzles and they really challenge him!

this is FANTASTIC!! simple layout, easy to find the different levels & be able to check correct answers, exactly what i was looking for!
