It has plenty of info, well laid out. I've found typeOs here and there.The practice test has a few problems, but is overall useful.i.e."A user's hard drive failed on his laptop computer. He wants to replace it with the fastest hard drive he can find.Which of the following drives should he purchase?1) Optical drive2) Flash drive3) PATA drive4) SATA drive"Hmmm.... I confidently chose SATA, but the answer was Flash drive. Since when are SSDs referred to as a Flash drive. Try googling "flash drive" and see what comes up. In the explanation of the answers,"A flash drive or solid state drive (SSD) is the fastest."Had it said "flash drive or solid state drive" this would have been my choice but i would have been wondering about why flash drive was included. Flash memory yes, flash drive, that's misleading. Does Comptia consider a "flash drive" an SSD? If i saw this question on the Comptia test, i'm not sure how i would answer it.I've found a few questions with questionable answers. Overall the book is great, i guess these weird questions just make me have to study harder and verify some answers at other sources.
Good book for passing A+. I do have some IT background, but purchased this book to brush upon the topics covered on the exam. The author does a great job of explaining everything in a way that is easy to understand and not too wordy. I read the book, took notes on some of the most important topics and passed first time. There were a few errors, so I'd definitely recommend checking out the errata page, which you can find in the book. There are practice tests on the CD. Once you take the full practice exam once or twice, you'll notice you get the same questions. I memorized the answers quickly, but they were still helpful.There were a few hands-on type questions on the exam that I was not expecting. One was configuring a home router with specified settings (SSID, encryption type, etc.) and one was 'building' two PCs based on the type of user (gamer, professional workstation) with a list of parts. The practice exams did not have any of these types of questions.All-in-all great book for a great price! I'd recommend it to anyone studying for A+.
I've rated this book 5 stars because it did exactly what I wanted it to. It helped me pass both CompTIA A+ exams. Information is written in such a way as to make it an easy read. Each chapter comes with a fantastic chapter summary and just a few questions to see if you retained what you read.The exam prep is also noteworthy because it really does help you identify areas you need to brush up on. If you do find yourself taking the practice exams more than once though, you may begin to see previously answered questions.
I just finished reading this book, cover to cover; and it contained a lot of very useful information that was presented and written very well. There were a few technical mistakes in the book, but I found nothing of much concern. The practice exams on the CD were good; although the text was a little small. I found the topics to be well ordered, so that each chapter's information built upon the information given in previous chapters. I appreciated the references, throughout the book, to resources for further study on particular topics.
From what I understood from reading other reviews the book had a few typos in it that throw you off from time to time but since I knew to expect them I was extra aware and when I noticed them it was no big deal I just remembered the answers a little differently for passing the exam. But other then that the book reads well and the practice tests included on the cd-rom were of great use.
Darril Gibson is the best author out there for IT certification study books. This book was my primary source of material in studying for the A+ as well as his Rapid Review book. It's straightforward, well written, and well organized. The practice exams in the included CD were an excellent resource, and it was nice to have the book in PDF form as well. I would recommend Mr. Gibson's study material above all others for the A+ exam-I scored right about 800 for both exams.
After looking at several books to use for my review I found this one to be "spot-on" for studying. I received the book way ahead of the projected date and in excellent shape! Highly recommend this seller!
Excellent book for introducing someone to details of how computers and networks work. A great practical help for anyone who wants to upgrade their systems or just understand basic computer technology. Well written and organized.
