Got this for my nephew. I knew he would be playing Pokémon Go a lot less now that it isn't summer anymore, so actually reading a book about it seemed like a good compromise.He read it from beginning to end, there were lots of pictures and text was fairly simple, only a few times did he ask his dad "what does this word mean?" He did say though that some of the information was stuff he already knew, but that there were items in there that he didn't know already that were useful (like catching Pikachoo, which is his favorite Pokémon).Skimming through the book myself, it seems like it could be more condensed, like the author wrote two paragraphs when one would have been enough. But it kept my nephew entertained, so I'm happy.
If you have never installed Pokémon Go and want to know the tips and tricks for starting the game, then this is the book for you. If, however, you have already been playing this game for more than a week, skip it.The problem with buying a printed guide for a game that updates weekly is that by the time the book was published, half of the information is no longer valid. This book includes tips and tricks that are wrong and outdated, and fails to mention all the new features. (Like those added last week. And a few days ago. And tonight. See the problem?)The book says ages 7+ and seems like it was meant for children, but is more likely to find a home with elderly players who are still confused by mobile gaming and need a physical copy of the Pokémon type chart.
Book attempts to plug into the PoGo craze, but is also a bit of a case of too little too late. Much of the information presented here is no longer correct, and now very outdated with Niantic's September patches. Eeveelution trick was biggest 'hack' in book, and if google "eevee evolution" you'll see how well known this trick is, so the tips might not generate as much bang for your buck, as say....6 incubators would.Print book CAN be helpful if you haven't picked up the game yet at all and want to turn pages instead remember or use a search engine to remember type-match ups, otherwise the tips provided aren't that advanced / based on old information, and most players are probably better off hitting google, or even youtube
Disclosure: I was given the book and a keychain in exchange for an unbiased review.This is very much a beginners guide, rather that a book of "Mini Hacks." The only hacks I found were for catching Pikachu, and for evolving the three Eevees.That being said, this book is a great beginners guide. It walks the reader though everything you need to know when starting out. The information was laid out simply and is easy to understand. Anyone who has played the game before does not need this book. I recommend it for older people who want to check the game out, or those who don't like to use Google.
Bought this for my son as a followup up to another hack book, because he and his friends are obsessed with Pokemon. They love---great tips!
I thought this guide served as a solid intro guide to the game and covered the basics of getting going in the game. There are a lot of screenshots that help clarify things. The best part is that it's not overly complicated and is filled with reference guides and charts like other game strategy guides, which I thought was helpful. However, this is not really a book for advanced players or high schoolers, and is more of a beginner's guide or for those of a younger audience. Also, it doesn't include information from some of the more recent updates of the game. All in all, it is a good jumping off point for Pokemon Go for beginners or those who need a good catch up, and if you're interested in playing the game, I'd recommend starting off with this gudie.
