I have done refrigeration for over 30 years and some HVAC in the 80's. I needed some information on current systems and this book did it. Textbooks are for theory, and if you understand how something works it is easier to repair. Another reviewer claimed it didn't tell you how to repair something like change a motor etc. Those kind of things are in equipment manuals. By the way this book actually had the wiring diagram for a smart valve, not something you would usually find in a textbook. No textbook can replace hands on learning but you have to have a good foundation which this book provides. If you think you can read a book and become a master service technician, I would like to see how big that book would be (This book is 1650 pages). As for Nate certification you should get a dedicated Nate Study guide in what you are interested in such as Dewalt HVAC technician certification exam guide.
Excellent book. Wish I bought it instead of rented. It's useful throughout the field, not just for the class I needed it for.
For anyone who is looking into becoming a refrigeration technician, this is a very detailed breakdown of everything needed to become the best tech. If there is a thirst for knowledge in this field, this is the equipment needed to go far in an educated way.
The book is enormous, but poorly organized. The index is much too small to find specific information you might be looking for. For example, there is no one place where you might learn how to hook up the controls for a split AIR/Hydronic HVAC system (i.e. the chain of control). There is also a lot of verbiage wasted on really simple stuff, like simple tools. I suspect the book is intended for beginners taking a class and assumes a lot will be shown and explained in the classroom.
This book was for my husband's HVAC college course he is currently taking. He is very happy with the book. Also we live a hour from the college, so it was very convenient to have it delivered at our home. It cost less than the school charged and it arrived in a couple days.
I'm just really irritated that on my new iPhone 7 plus this book constantly freezes acts weird and doesn't show any of the illustrations that it is referring to in the paragraphs.I have no complaints about the actual book It's written very well and easy to read, I did find a few errors, small things that were easy to realize what they meant but still...Probably works fine on a Kindle...
This book touches on all aspects of the HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) profession. The material can be on the dry side and some sections are more informative than others, but overall its a comprehensive book for anybody interested in learning about how to do this.
I have had this book since may 2015 and it is already falling apart. The binding is coming undone on the spine of the book and im starting to lose pages. Pay $110 for a book and it doesn't last five months. I had to have the book for class it has good info in it and also has some old out dated info in it as well.
